New Middletown - Michael W. Tobias Sr., 88, died December 20, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Mr. Tobias was born September 2, 1926 in Youngstown, a son of Michael and Mary Tenczler Tobias.
He attended Woodrow Wilson High School, before leaving for the United States Navy, where he served during WWII.
Michael worked for General Motors and was Deputy Sheriff for Mahoning County. He also worked for a cement company and was owner and operator of Top Valley Gas Stations in Youngstown and Warren. He attended New Life Church and was a member of the UAW. Michael was an avid football fan and was a season ticket holder at YSU.
He is survived by his wife, Freda, whom he married Nov. 22, 1975; two sons, Robert (Sue) Tobias of Houston and LTC. Daniel (Maki) Tobias of Honolulu, Hawaii; five daughters, Nancy Woodrum of Youngstown, Karen Worstell of Austintown, Jacquelyn Davis of Youngstown, Lori Lennox of Poland, and Michelle Tobias of Boardman; two sisters, Esther (L.A.) Woodworth of Lake Panasoffkee, FL and Isabel (John) Tarr of Youngstown; one brother, Frank Tobias of Youngstown; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Mary Ann Tobias.
Besides his parents, Michael was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Tobias, Jr. and Joseph Tobias; one brother, Louis Tobias; and one grandson, Matthew Tobias.
Services will be held at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home 270 N. Main St., Poland, Tuesday at 11:00 AM with Pastor Bob Reese officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Friends and family will be received Monday 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Tuesday from 10-10:45 at the funeral home
