Michael J Helon Jr.

Michael J. Helon Jr. of Poland, died Sunday evening August 20, 2017 in St. Elizabeth Hospital in Boardman following injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Mike was born December 30, 1962 in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of Michael and Rita Farnbauer Helon Sr. and lived in the area most of his life.

He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church in New Middletown. He was a 1981 graduate of Canfield High School and earned his degree from Youngstown State University. He was also a graduate of Leadership Mahoning Valley’s Lead program, as well as having served on the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement. He was currently serving on the Leadership Board for Akron’s Children’s Hospital. With more than twenty years of experience in Wealth Management, Mike specialized in serving the needs of affluent banking clients with Chemical Bank.

Mike was a devoted father who dedicated much of his time to showing his strong love of his daughters in so many ways, whether it be coaching them with The Ohio Blast organization or The Streak organization, or spending quality time at the beach. He was a “die-hard” fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Ohio State Buckeyes. In his spare time he enjoyed making wine and playing golf with his friends.

Besides his wife the former Kendra Phillips, whom he married September 14, 1991, he leaves his mother Rita Combis of Poland; his father Michael Sr. of New Castle, Pa.; his daughters, Maddie and Taylor Helon at home; his sister, Heather (Craig) Miller of New Castle, Pa.; two nephews, Hunter Miller and Gavin Miller, both of New Castle.

A memorial mass will be held to celebrate Mike’s life 11:00 Saturday August 26, 2017 at St. Paul the Apostle Church in New Middletown. Friends may call two hours prior to the mass, from 9:00 to 11:00 at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that material contributions take the form of donations to a memorial account established for the benefit of the Michael Helon Family at Chemical Bank.
