New Springfield - Michael A. "Mad" Fabry, 74, passed away February 6, 2024, at the Hospice House.
He was born November 10, 1949 in Youngstown, a son of the late Michael and Mary (Kollar) Fabry. He joined the United States Army in 1967, and fought in the Vietnam War. He served for three tours in Vietnam earning several commendations including the Bronze Star Medal. He was always proud of his time in the service and would rarely be seen without his Vietnam hat on.
For a majority of his life, he worked in construction as an excavator, but his real passion came with working with his hands. He seemed to always be busy tinkering, fixing, or inventing things. And at the age of 72, he even built a whole garage with the help of his neighbors and friends. He loved riding his Harley, and was described as a tough guy who was stubborn to his core, but devout to his Catholic faith.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his daughters, Emily (Jonathan) Vito of Anchorage, AK and Dianah Fabry of Columbiana; his siblings, Steve Fabry and Georgina Kerr; many nephews and nieces; and extended family in Slovakia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Fabry.
A memorial celebration of his life will be held at a later date. He will be laid to rest at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, where military honors will be rendered for his service to our country.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that material contributions be made to either the Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, Ohio 44514 or to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 7345 Westview Drive, Boardman, Ohio 44512, who were there for Mad in his time of need.
