Lowellville - Michael M. Dorney, 64, died September 14, 2014 at the Hospice House after a battle with kidney cancer.

Mr. Dorney was born October 28, 1949 in Youngstown, a son of James and Callie Zumbro Dorney, and a resident of Lowellville since 1978.

He was a 1969 graduate of East High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps., serving during the Vietnam War from July of 69' until being honorably discharged in July of 71' with the rank of Corporal.

A loyal and hard working man, Mr. Dorney was employed by LTV Steel for 10 years and worked for ASC in North Jackson and KWA in Kent, working at all of them until their closing. He later worked for Denman Tire in Leavittsburg and most recently was employed by Goss Gas Inc./Renovex in western PA up until his illness.

He was a former member of St. Joseph Church in Austintown, where he was baptized and a current member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Lowellville.

In his free time, Mike enjoyed cheering for the Cleveland Browns and Indians, watching the history channel, especially programs on military history, and planting a garden when he got the chance at his country home. He could also be found on the dance floor at functions and loved classic rock and jazz music.

He is survived by his wife, the former Susan J. Sherbak, whom he married September 6, 1975; son, Benjamin Dorney of Hubbard; daughter, Caitlin Dorney of Cleveland; brother, James (Martha) Dorney of Youngstown; mother-in-law, Agnes Sherbak of New Castle; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Judy and Paul Bruno of New Castle; nephews and nieces, Matthew, Andrew, and Steve Bruno, Ty and Grant Dorney, Michael P. Dorney, Susan M. Dorney, and Kristen Dorney Perrico; and their special neighbors, friends, and caregivers, Buddy and Paula McLaughlin of Lowellville.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Dorney was preceded in death by his brother, Grant Dorney.

A prayer service will be held Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Lowellville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. Interment will be at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the prayer service at 12:30 p.m.

The family would like to thank Drs. Brian Rini and Susan LeGrand of the Taussig Cancer Institute at Cleveland Clinic, his family physician Dr. Michael Frangopoulos, Hospice of the Valley and their home care nurses, his home health aide, Jim, and his wife's employer Personal Touch Home Care for the wonderful care and support they gave to Mike and his family throughout his illness.
