Melvin Collingwood

Melvin Collingwood, 89, of Arrel Road died early Thursday morning at his residence. Mr. Collingwood, also known as Jake, was born November 28, 1915 in Struthers, a son of Roy and Martha Davis Collingwood. He was raised in Struthers before moving to Poland. He was a 1936 graduate of Struthers High School and worked for the Youngstown Sheet & Tube. He became a master mechanic and with his partner, opened C and D Garage on Elm Street in Struthers. Mr. Collingwood also worked for Youngstown Creamery and Bob and Chuckâa�a��s trucking before retiring in the office of his sonâa�a��s business, B&C Heating and Air Conditioning in Struthers. Mr. Collingwood was a member of the Poland Presbyterian Church, and itsâa�a�� Mariner and Odd Fellow Clubs. He enjoyed spending time with his family traveling and camping. The Collingwood family has numerous memories of their yearly trips to Disney World. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 68 years, the former Rita Guy; his son, Melvin "Buddy" Collingwood and daughter, Myra (Collingwood) Franko; one granddaughter, Cindy (Collingwood) Best of Poland; three grandsons, Jeffrey Collingwood of Struthers, Jamie Collingwood and David Franko both of Columbus; one great-grandson, Matthew Slaven and one great-granddaughter, Brittany Best. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by two sisters, Velma Williams and Lovetta Shortman, and his brothers, LeRoy, Merle, and Charles Collingwood. Melvin will be greatly missed by all who knew him and his memory will be forever cherished by his family. Funeral services will be Monday, 11:00 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers.
