Poland - Melva Jeannine Howell, 84, of Poland, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, September 18, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
Melva, affectionately known by her middle name Jeannine, was born December 1, 1928 in Youngstown, a daughter of Francis and Melva Mallery Weckbacher.
Raised in Poland, Jeannine was a graduate of Poland Seminary High School. She attended Comptometer School and later was employed at Republic Steel. She also worked for Strouss Department Store and for Century Foods.
Jeannine was a member and treasurer of the P. Buckley Moss Society and a member of the Carnival Dance Club. A Bridge player for 20 years, Jeannine was a member of the Canfield Duplicate Bridge Club. Jeannine was a member of the Poland Republican Women and a 50 year member of the Poland Presbyterian Church.
Jeannine mostly enjoyed being a wife, mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family, playing cards with her grandchildren and looking forward to their back-scratch sessions.
Jeannine leaves behind her husband of 64 years, Charles Norman Howell, whom she married September 10, 1949; two daughters, Connie (Ira) Hermann of Orange,CA, and Cheri (Dave) Shirey of Powell, OH; one son, Jeff (Vicki) Howell of Garrettsville, OH; seven grandsons, Matt (Susan) Hermann of Orange, CA, Jarad (Mary Kate) Hermann of Fairview Park, OH, Nathan (Mary Jo) Hermann of Rowland Heights, CA, Chris (Mandy) Miller of Atwater, OH, and Trevor, Tyler, and Jason Shirey all of Powell, OH; and eight great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Jeannine was preceded in death by an infant sister, Joan Weckbacher.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, 11:30 AM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland. Interment will follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Poland.
Friends and family will be received Friday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Saturday from 10:30 AM to 11:15 AM at the funeral home.
