Greensboro, NC - Mary Eloise Large, 97, formerly of Poland, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at her daughter's home in Greensboro, NC.

Mary, affectionately known by her middle name "Eloise," was born February 22, 1923 in Wheeling, WV, a daughter of the late Jesse and Masel Deuley Salmons.

Raised in Sardis, Ohio, Eloise met her future husband, Herman James "Jim" in her hometown. After Jim returned from the war, they were married on April 20, 1947. Jim's job took them to numerous states, before settling in Poland in 1973. They were blessed with 45 years of marriage until his passing on April 17, 1992.

Mrs. Large worked as a secretary at St. James Episcopal Church in Boardman for many years and retired from the Mahoning County Public Health Department, where she did clerical work.

Eloise was a lifelong reader, crossword enthusiast, and enjoyed playing bridge. She was a former member of Poland United Methodist Church and a member of the Friends of the Poland Library.

Eloise is survived by her children, Peggy (John) Fersner of Greensboro, NC, with whom she made her home since December of 2017, and Scott (Dani) Large of Boardman; grandchildren, James (Candan) Burati of Raleigh, NC, Kelly (GC) Campbell of Fort Mill, SC, Alexandra Fersner of Richmond, VA, Sarah (Drew) Davic of Cranberry, PA, and Jeremy Large of Boardman; and great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Luke Campbell, and Evangeline "Evie" Davic.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Nancy Murphy, Francis Peel, and Nettie Broyhill; and a brother, Thomas Salmons.

A private graveside service was held for the family at the Poland Riverside Cemetery.

The family requests that any memorial gifts be made to the hospice organization, AuthoraCare Collective, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405, who brought such comfort to Eloise and her family the past three months.
