Poland - Max Crawford, 87, passed away peacefully at Hospice House Tuesday morning, March 19th, 2024, after a brief illness.
Max was born June 18th, 1936 in Oak Ridge, PA to Boyd and Irene Crawford.
He was a 1954 graduate of Red Bank Valley High School in New Bethlehem, PA. After graduation, he moved to Struthers, OH to work at Youngstown Sheet and Tube. He worked there for 30 years starting in the Meter Repair Department before earning his certification to work in Refrigeration repairing the AC units on cranes above the blast furnaces.
When the Youngstown steel mills closed, Max was forced to retire. Four years later, he started working at the Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital in Warren, OH in the maintenance department for the next 20 years.In his free time, Max enjoyed woodworking, bowling, golf, and spending time with his family.
For 67 years, Max was a dedicated member of the Struthers United Methodist Church where he served on many committees, the administrative board and coordinated all maintenance and repairs for the church.
Max is survived by his wife of 67 years, Janice Crawford, whom he married July 6th 1956; his two daughters, Lugene Bendig and Marci Conzett; and his eight grandchildren, Jeffrey Crawford, Lauren Bendig, Larry Conzett Jr, Jessica Zappia, Mallory Kubisz, Kelsey Bendig, Matthew Conzett, and Madeline Simcox, as well as his sister, June Smith
Max also leaves 10 great-grandchildren: Eva, Jeffrey Jr, Isabella, Elizabeth, Carlee, Avery, Cadence, Max, Owen and Violet with the eleventh on the way.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son, Daniel and his seven siblings.
Family and friends may call Friday, March 22nd from 2:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland, OH where a funeral service will directly follow at 5:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, Max’s family would appreciate donations to The Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley in Youngstown, OH where Max frequently volunteered.
