Youngstown - Matthew Edward Kelso, 24, of Youngstown, died unexpectedly on Sunday afternoon, December 13, 2015.
Matthew was born on March 26, 1991 in Youngstown, a son of Mark Kelso and Jacqueline (Popovnak) Kelso-Childers.
Mathew attended Boardman Schools and enjoyed wrestling while in middle school. At the age of 14, he began working as a cook at the Landmark Restaurant on Meridian Road, working throughout his schooling career. Matthew also attended the Pittsburgh Art Institute.
Matthew had a passion for art and loved to draw. His other interests included working out, listening to music, cutting firewood on his family's property, and he was a car enthusiast. Matthew will be especially remembered for his big heart. He was always the first wanting to lend a hand to someone in need.
Matthew is survived by his mother, Jacqueline Kelso-Childers and step-father, Dwayne Childers of Salem; his father, Mark Kelso of Boardman; two brothers, Mark Kelso of Youngstown and Dakota Childers of Salem; a sister, Cheyenne Childers of Austintown; grandparents, Gene and Jeanne Popovnak of Austintown and William Kelso of FL; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, whom Matthew loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, JoAnne Kelso, his aunt, Merry Lee Kelso Ragan, and his uncle, Kenneth Kelso.
A funeral service will be held Friday at 6 p.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman. Family and friends will be received on Friday from 4-5:45 p.m. at the funeral home, prior to the service.
