Lowellville - Mary Jean A. Michael, 87, died May 26, 2016 in St. Elizabeth Health Center. She was born August 17, 1928 in Youngstown, to the late Steven and Anna Yavorsky Lisko and was a 1946 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School.
She was a member of Christ our Savior Parish at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Struthers where she was a CCD teacher for over 20 years, belonged to the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild and served on Parish Council.
Mary Jean was a member of ABWA Mill Creek Chapter, NARFE, Marine Corps League Auxiliary #494, American Legion Auxiliary #247, VFW Auxiliary #3538, the 757th and 910th Veteran's Associations, the Christian Women's Association, the Lowellville Seniors, was a Den Leader for Cub Scout Troop #102 for several years and was institutional representative for Explorer Scouts. She enjoyed flower gardening and cooking, Mary Jean was a giver of her time to her family and friends and to the several organizations that she was affiliated with.
She began her working career at Strouss' Department Store in 1945, where she started in the Candy Department and later worked in Accounts Payable and the Stenographic Department. In 1948, she then began working at the Naval Air Station in Akron where she started her Civil Service career. Following five years of employment in Akron, Mary Jean moved to the Air Base in Vienna where she was employed by the United States Air Force from 1952-1983. Her job titles over those 31 years included, purchasing agent, budget officer, senior comptroller and she retired as the base contracting officer.
She leaves her son, Robert W. Michael of Lowellville; her sisters-in-law, Agnes Lisko of Struthers and Mary Esposito of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Michael on November 25, 2013, whom she married on August 10, 1957; and her brothers, Steven (Mary), Frank (Betty), John (Ergilia "Midge") and Paul Lisko.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Wednesday, June 1st at 10am at Christ Our Savior Parish at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be private for the family.
The Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Lowellville is handling arrangements.
