YOUNGSTOWN - Mrs. Mary Jane Campbell died peacefully at Ohio Living Park Vista on November 13, 2017, from Alzheimer’s disease.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, John B. Campbell of Youngstown; three daughters, Susan DiGiacomo and Sandra (Anthony) Malice of Boardman, and Sharyn Campbell and husband Kevin O’Brien of Henrico, VA; grandchildren, Aimee and Kyle Malice of Boardman, and Alex DiGiacomo of Toronto, ON, Canada; sister-in- law Jane Zimmerman of Savannah, GA; and nieces and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Col. (Retired) Lawrence Zimmerman of Savannah, GA, and Willard Zimmerman of Youngstown; and a grandson, Justin Malice of Boardman.
Mary Jane was born on March 22, 1927, in Xenia, OH, to Doyle W. and Esther Clemans Zimmerman. A 1945 graduate of Liberty High School, she worked as a secretary for six years, first for Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co. and later for Trinity Methodist Church. She met John B. Campbell while attending Youngstown College and they were wed on June 11, 1949.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed playing bridge, reading on a wide variety of topics, serving as a poll worker, and singing hymns. As a member of Indianola United Methodist Church and later Boardman United Methodist Church, she participated in choir and taught Sunday School and Bible School. She possessed superior mending skills, was an avid newspaper reader, had tenderness for pets and animals, and diligently tended her flower beds.
A memorial service will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. in the chapel at Ohio Living Park Vista, 1216 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. Following the memorial service, the family will greet friends from 2-4 p.m. in the Gathering Room. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mary Jane’s life.
