Mary "Eleanor" Welsh

Poland - Mary "Eleanor" Welsh, 98, passed away early Monday morning, April 21, 2014.
Eleanor was born September 10, 1915 in Struthers, a daughter of Peter and Mary Funfare Hopkins.
She was a 1933 graduate of Struthers Memorial High School and graduated from comptometer school in November of 1934. Eleanor worked as a comptometer specialist for Youngstown Sheet and Tube. She was a lifelong resident of Poland.
Eleanor was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church and belonged to its Altar and Rosary Society and Infant Jesus of Prague. She was a member of the Rosarian Garden Club of Poland and served as a vice president on its executive board. She belonged to several girls clubs including bridge, "500" bid, dominos and also a couples card club and a couples dance club.
Her husband, Robert W. Welsh, whom she married November 19, 1941, died November 14, 1998. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Kay (Tom) Guza of Youngstown; son, Tom (Pattie) Welsh of New Middletown; two granddaughters, Michelle (Harold) Porter of Austintown and Stacey (Brandon Parsons) Welsh of Boardman; two grandsons, Ryan Welsh of Bonita Springs, FL and Matthew (Sarah) Guza of Boardman; five great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Brett, Derek, Trent, and Trevor Porter; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Anne Chesney and Margaret "Peg" Bagnall; and two brothers, George and Gus Hopkins.
A prayer service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Poland Riverside Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received Friday from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
