Mary Jane Weaver

East Palestine - Mary Jane Weaver, 97, formerly of Poland, died September 13, 2016 at Covington Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Mary Jane was born August 4, 1919 in Youngstown, a daughter of Roy and Bertha Povey Newton.

Raised in Youngstown, she was a 1938 graduate of Chaney High School. Mary Jane previously worked for Youngstown Sheet & Tube and Youngstown Letter Shop as a typist and Sears as a walker with the security department. She married Francis M. "Bud" Weaver on November 25, 1945 and they made their home in Poland for many years.

She was a very generous woman and donated often to the veteran's organizations and animal charities. Mary Jane was also an avid sports fan and loved cheering for the Cleveland Indians.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband Bud in 1993. She is survived by two sisters, Virginia Vale and Phyllis Newton, both of East Palestine; two nephews, Gary (Natalie) Cowan of Columbiana and Paul Cowan of New Waterford; two nieces, Sally Cowan of New Waterford and Shelley (Monte) Hall of Dumfries, VA; and host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews and great great nieces and great great nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary Jane was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Newton.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St., Poland, where family and friends will be received on Saturday from 1-1:45 p.m, prior to the service. Interment will be at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
