New Middletown- Mary Jane Scott, 91, died January 12, 2014 at Hampton Woods.
Mrs. Scott was born January 30, 1922 in Youngstown, a daughter of David and Elsie Pickard Prosser.
She was a 1941 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School. Prior to her marriage, Mrs. Scott worked for Truscon Steel. After raising her four children, she began working for Northside Hospital in laundry, then as a waitress for Howard Johnson on the turnpike, and retired from American Paper, working as a machine operator.
Mrs. Scott was a former member of the Free Methodist Church in New Middletown. She had a love for children and taught Sunday School at the Free Methodist Church, and was affectionately known by the children as "Grandma Scott." She was a current member of the Church of the Rock in Poland.
Mary Jane centered her life around family and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her children and grandchildren. One of her last proud and treasured memories was being able to attend her grandson, John Boy's wedding this past August 9th. She was so thrilled to be able to get dressed up and be ushered to the event in a surprise limo pickup with her children.
Her husband, T. Grant Scott, whom she married November 5, 1943, died January 15, 2012. Mrs. Scott is survived by three daughters, Judith (Todd Johnson) DiRenzo of Poland, Diane (Lou) Davis of Atlanta, GA, and Nancy (John) Kennedy of New Middletown; son, Thomas "Buster" (Jane) Scott of New Middletown; sister, Ruth (Ralph) Fellows of New Springfield; brother-in-law, Melvin Powell of Newton Falls; 11 grandchildren, Diane (Marc) DiGregorio of Poland, David DiRenzo of New Middletown, Debbie (Todd) Burry of Poland, John (Holly) DiRenzo of Poland, Tammy Davis of Decatur, GA, Louie (Pam) Davis of Sugarhill, GA, Amy (Scott) McCorkle of Greenwood, IN, Jodi (Mike) Liscio of Delaware, OH, Jennifer (K.C.) Branson of Pittsburgh, Cindy (Tom) Kliem of New Middletown, and Tommy (Kelly) Scott of Poland; and 20 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Johnny Kennedy; and three sisters, Lilly Bell Mozzy, Elsie Mae Richardson, and Betty Lou Powell.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Church of the Rock, with Pastor Reid Lamport officiating. Private interment will be at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, New Middletown.
Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 4-6:45 p.m. at the church, prior to the service.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Mrs. Scott's name to Church of the Rock, 7025 Luteran Lane, Poland, Ohio 44514.
