Mary Corrado

February 19, 1912 — July 23, 2013

POLAND - Mary S. Corrado, 101, died July 23, 2013, at Hospice House.
Mrs. Corrado was born Feb. 19, 1912, in Potenza, Italy, a daughter of Anthony and Galerina LaTocca Salvatore.
She was a 1930 East High School graduate. Mary started her college education at Lucy Webb Hayes National Training School in Washington, having received a scholarship from the United Methodist Community Center, formerly called Pearl Street Community Center. She went on to receive a Bachelor's degree from Youngstown College and Master's degree from Westminster College.
Mary was a teacher for the Youngstown City Schools and later worked as a home school visitor for the Board of Education for 10 years, retiring in 1975.
Mary was a active member of the Poland United Methodist Church and a member Delta Kappa Gamma teacher's organization. She was a life long quilter and enjoyed painting. One thing that she truly enjoyed was giving pizzeles to her dearest friends.
Her husband, Joseph, whom she married June 15, 1940, died Aug. 22, 2000.
She is survived by three daughters, Gayle Corrado of Woodstock, Va., Ruth Ann (Frank) Larned of Daytona Beach, FLa., and Marilyn Corrado of Poland; three grandchildren, Amy (Tim) Shoenberger of San Diego, Tod Shoenberger of Pittsburgh, and Joseph Larned of Jacksonville, Fla.; and two great-grandchildren, Justin and Brandon Shoenberger.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by siblings, Joanne Norton, Rose Isaacs, Amelia Ligotti, Julia Levis, Michael and Adam Salvatore.
There will be no services or calling hours.
Arrangements are being handled by the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland Chapel.
