Columbus - Mary Butch, 93, formerly of Hamilton Blvd. in Struthers, died early Sunday morning, October 5, 2014 at Mayfair Village Retirement and Nursing Center in Columbus.
Mrs. Butch was born January 12, 1921 in Allegheny County, PA, a daughter of Louis and Mary Thomas Mathe, and came to the Youngstown area as a child. She lived in Struthers for over 60 years until moving to Columbus several years ago to be closer to family.
Mrs. Butch was a graduate of Campbell Memorial High School. On December 1, 1942, she married Michael A. Butch and became a dedicated homemaker, raising their three children. She enjoyed attending aerobics classes, doing seamstress work, cooking, and baking.
While living in Struthers, she was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church and a member of its Altar and Rosary Society.
Her husband, Michael A. Butch, died in August of 1993. Mrs. Butch is survived by two sons, Michael Buccicone of Centerburg and Thomas (Annie) Butch of Lakeland, FL; daughter, Marilyn Buccicone of Cincinnati; and four grandchildren, Kara Simm of Lakeland, FL, Trevor (Shelley) Butch of Pickerington, Rachel (Ryan) Chilton of Westerville, and Melissa Buccicone of Centerburg.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Butch was preceded in death by her brother, Frank Mathe and her sister, Helen Marquardt.
A prayer service will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St., Poland, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Boardman.
Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
