Youngstown - Mary Ellen Best, 54, of Youngstown, died Wednesday morning at her residence after battling pancreatic cancer.
Mary Ellen was born May 22, 1955 in Youngstown, a daughter of James and Nancy Gorman Parrish and was a life-long area resident.
A 1974 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Mary Ellen worked in various positions including quality control for Boardman Molding Products and as a care giver for Comfort Keepers. She was a disciple of Christ and was a member of Christian Assembly Church in Boardman where she was active in bible studies. Mary Ellen was a supporter of Akron Burn Center, and attended many of their events. She enjoyed crafts, and at one time was a member of various bowling leagues. Mary Ellen especially loved taking care of and spending time with her grandchildren.
Besides her husband Robert Best whom she married August 10, 1974; she leaves two daughters, Shannon (Hector) Pagan and Rebecca (Thomas Cole) Best all of Youngstown; one son, Brian (Jessica Rucker) Best of Youngstown; five sisters, Luanne Ruggiero of Poland, Patti (Timothy) Patrick of Salem, Laura (Gary) Hartman of Boardman, Ann Marie Bellstrom of Struthers, and Sissy (Kenny) Norris of Youngstown; mother-in-law, Harriet Best of Youngstown; daughter-in-law, Angie Broll of Struthers; ten grandchildren, Ruben Best, Ryan Collins, Isaiah Pagan, Robbie Best, Abigail Rucker, Hector Pagan, Briana Best, Thomas Cole III, Brian Best Jr., and Tyler Cole; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her son, Robert Best Jr; one brother, James Parrish Jr; and father-in-law, Norman Best.
Services will be held Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. at Christian Assembly Church with Pastor Jerry Hunt officiating. Interment will follow at the Lake Park Cemetery.
Friends will be received Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers, and Tuesday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church.
