Martin V. Matteson Jr., 83 of Poland died Wednesday afternoon September 13, 2017 at his home. He was born April 22, 1934 in Canfield, Ohio a son of Martin and Marie (Higgins) Matteson Sr. and was a lifelong area resident.

Martin was a mechanic by trade and was the founder of Matteson Equipment. He was a lifelong member of Poland United Methodist Church and had been a Mason and a member of Western Star Lodge No. 21 for over fifty years.

Besides his wife, the former Carol Hill whom her married in 1954, he leaves a daughter, Barbara G. (Nick) Peluso of Petersburg, Ohio; his son, Marty C. ( Kitty) Matteson of Poland; His sister, Mary Lou Millard of St. Petersburg, Florida; a brother, Robert Matteson of Houston, Texas; Seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Jamie, Jeanna, Cayla, Kelsey, Martin, and Zachary;  four great-grandchildren, Isla, Melina, Roselee and Silas. He also leaves several nieces and nehews.

The family would like to extend their special thanks to his niece, Ada for her loving care during his illness as well as the other nieces and nephews who assisted in caring for him.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Maggie Wilson, Ruth Schmader, Genevieve DiVinny and Virginia May, as well as three brothers, William, Eugene, and David Matteson.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday September 23, 2017 at the Poland United Methodist Church in Poland with Pastor Ken Gifford officiating. Friends may call prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. The family requests material contributions take the form of donations to the Kid’s Club at Poland United Methodist Church.
