"Together Again"

BOARDMAN - Martha E. Swan, passed away Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018, after an unexpected illness surrounded by her family.
Martha was born May 15, 1930, in Youngstown, the only daughter of Harry and Gladys Sandstrom. She was a lifelong area resident of Boardman.
Martha graduated from Boardman High School in 1948 and became a secretary for Fithian-Wilbert Burial Vault in Boardman. After raising her children, she worked as a secretary for Stadium Drive School until her retirement.
Martha dedicated herself to her First Covenant Church family, served as Sunday School and Pioneer Club Kitchen facilitator, Lucia Fest committee member, hospitality coordinator and caterer, Diaconate and church committee member, Covenant Women officer, and volunteered anytime a group or committee needed her special attention and fabulous culinary and baking skills.
Martha and her husband kept alive all of the Swedish traditions of the Covenant Church. After joining the Faith Community Covenant Church, Martha was involved in Bible Study, Covenant Women, and attending various services there. In her free time, she enjoyed creating beautiful cross stitch masterpieces for her family and friends. She was also an avid book reader, loved doing puzzles, and bird watching on her porch. Above all, she loved attending and keeping up with all her family’s activities and spending time with them.
She served as camp secretary for the church camp, Mission Meadows from 1967 to 1974. She belonged to the Gideons and also volunteered at the Pregnancy Center in Boardman.
She married the love of her life, Floyd, on June 24, 1950, and he preceded her in death on March 30, 2014.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Karen (Mike) Burkett and Linda (Bill) Nugent; two sons, Larry (Lynne) Swan and Kenneth Swan; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She also leaves three brothers, Lee (Shirley), Carl (Arelene), and Paul (Marcia).
Friends and family will be received from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 23, at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman and from 10 to 10:45 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 24, at the Faith Community Covenant Church, 1919 E. Midlothian Blvd., Youngstown, prior to the service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Zabel officiating. Her final resting place will be next to her husband at Lake Park Cemetery.
