Youngstown

Martha J. Beniston, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and registered nurse, passed away on October 22, 2024, at the age of 74. Born on May 21, 1950, in Youngstown, Ohio, she was the daughter of Stuart and Theresa Pryor Wilson.

Martha grew up in Poland, Ohio, and graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in 1968. She earned her Bachelor of Education degree from Ohio Dominican University in 1972. Martha dedicated six years to teaching first grade at St. Dominic's in Youngstown before pursuing a career in nursing. She obtained an Associate Degree in Nursing from Youngstown State University and became a registered nurse. For two decades, Martha worked as a medical-surgical nurse at Youngstown Osteopathic Hospital and later twenty years at Forum Health Northside, where her compassion for her patients shone until her retirement in 2016.

Martha derived immense joy from her five grandchildren, caring for them with love and dedication. An avid cook and baker, her pies were particularly cherished by family and friends. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and indulging in arts and crafts.

Martha leaves behind her husband of 50 years, William Beniston, whom she married on June 8, 1974. She is survived by her two sons, Josh (Kat) Beniston of Santa Rosa, California, and Ian (Krista) Beniston of Youngstown, as well as her daughter, Abigail (William Gaffney Jr.) Beniston of Youngstown and her furry four legged son Lincoln. Her grandchildren-Benjamin Dewberry, Wyatt, Reed, and Stella Beniston, and Elanor Beniston-will carry on her legacy of love.

She is also survived by her sister, Carol Wilson, and her family, Johnny and Peggy Beniston. Martha was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Barbara Sladewski and Nancy Wilson.

Martha will be remembered for her kindness, dedication to her family, and the positive impact she made on the lives of those around her. In honoring Martha's wishes there will be no services.

Memorial contributions can be made to Animal Charity.
