Struthers - Martha Nadine (Grow) Gerak, 87, passed away peacefully, Friday morning, August 17, 2018 in the comfort of her home.
Martha, affectionately known as "Martie," was born August 6, 1931 in Struthers, a daughter of the late William Grow and Josephine (Wells) Grow Huckle.
A lifelong resident of Struthers, Martie was a 1949 graduate of Struthers High School. Shortly after graduation, she began working in the US Savings Bond Department of the Youngstown Sheet & Tube. She married her high school sweetheart George Francis Gerak on July 9, 1951 in Key West, Florida, where he was stationed with the United States Navy. In 1954, she became a dedicated homemaker and mother.
She was an accomplished writer and published poet. Martie was also a master gardener with exceptional knowledge of flora and fauna. Together with her husband, Martie worked hard to create a backyard sanctuary filled with colors for every season.
In addition to her husband George of 68 years, Mrs. Gerak is survived by her only daughter, Kimberley (David) Bacchetti of Hubbard.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Delores Rae Grow McCaughey.
Per Mrs. Gerak's wishes, there will be no calling hours or services. Arrangements are being handled by the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers.
Memorial tributes may take the form of contributions in Mrs. Gerak's name to the American Cancer Society.
