BOARDMAN - Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home in Boardman, for Martha R. Forney, 81, who passed away Oct. 9, 2010, at the Hospice House after a lengthy illness.
Martha was born Dec. 4, 1928, in Youngstown, a daughter of Chester and Edith Ellgas Edgerton.
She was a 1947 graduate of South High School and worked as a cashier of the Ohio Bell Telephone Company for 13 years.
Martha was a member of the Paul Easton Church at Glenellen and prior to that the Central Christian Church in Youngstown. She served as a Deacon and Elder at both churches. While at the Central Christian Church, she was named Church Mother of the Year for 1986-1987, served as chair of the church growth committee and member of the personnel committee.
Martha served on the board of Protestant Family Service, as an assistant Girl Scout Leader and was a member of the Boardman PTA. She was a member of two 500-card clubs, one of former classmates and the other Bell Telephone employees.
She and her husband, Bill, loved to travel and visited 48 states and all National Parks of the West.
Martha is survived by her husband, William H., whom she married on Nov. 16, 1950. She is also survived by a son, William Michael (Colleen) Forney of Winter Garden, Fla.; a daughter, Anita (Craig) Carson of Boardman; granddaughters Jennifer (Adam) Kusiak of Winter Garden and Sarah Carson of Boardman; and two great-granddaughters, Taylor and Kallie Kusiak of Winter Garden. Martha is also survived by a sister, Mary (Joseph) Pesut of Struthers; two brothers, Paul (Sue) Edgerton of Palm Bay, Fla. and Edward Edgerton of Youngstown; and six nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Howard; and a niece, Sarah Edgerton.
Friends may call Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
