HILL, Marlene Jenny, 85 of Sarasota, Florida died on Saturday June 17, 2017 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital with her family around her.
Marlene was born on February 18, 1932.
She was a graduate of Youngstown College, now Youngstown State University where she was active in many social and club activities including being the head drum majorette for the marching band. She was also an Ohio state champion in baton completion. While at Youngstown College, she earned the highest academic honors.
It was at Youngstown College where she met Richard Hill. They were married in Youngstown, Ohio on June 19, 1954. They established a home in Poland, Ohio after Richards’s military service.
In Ohio, Marlene was active at The Youngstown County Club where she participated in golf, tennis, and social events including organizing events for the women’s golf league.
The family enjoyed Sarasota, Florida and split time between Ohio and Florida for many years before becoming full time residents of Florida in 2012.
In Florida, Marlene was active at The Oaks Club in Osprey where she regularly played golf, tennis, and bridge.
Marlene leaves behind scores of family and friends who love and dearly miss her.
Marlene is survived by her husband, Richard Hill of Sarasota, sons Jeffrey Hill of Youngstown, Ohio and Jonathan Hill (Ronnie) of Rocky River, Ohio. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Kaitlin Hill of Canfield, Ohio and Meredith Gruelle (Corey) of Poland, Ohio, and their mother, Sherri Hill, Rowland “RJ” Hill of San Francisco, California, and Warren Hill of Rocky River, Ohio, Jennifer Ruff of Ames, IA and Elizabeth “Libby” Ruff of Tampa, Florida and their father, Timothy Ruff. She loved sharing in welcoming her first great, grandchild, Nora Gruelle to the family in 2015.
Marlene was pre-deceased by her mother, Ruth Ritter and her daughter, Cynthia Hill Ruff.
The family will hold a memorial service on Thursday July 13th at 11:00am at the Poland Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Poland Presbyterian Church of Poland, Ohio or the Covenant Life Church in Sarasota, Florida.
