Lowellville- Mario Nero, 84, died early Tuesday morning, October 29, 2013 at Masternick Memorial Health Care Center in New Middletown.
Mr. Nero was born April 25, 1929 in Castelbottaccio, Italy, a son of Peter and Caterina Tanferno Niro. In 1948, Mario came to the United States, becoming a life long resident of Lowellville.
While in Italy, Mr. Nero learned the trade of tailoring. Mario took great pride in his work and owned his own tailoring business for over 60 years. He first operated L&M Tailors on Midlothian Blvd. and later Mario the Tailor, which was housed out of the Bernie Tunno Insurance Company on South Avenue.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Lowellville and a member of the Castle "B" Club. In his early years, he enjoyed golfing and bowling. Mario adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren, always having a smile on his face when he was with them.
His wife, the former Jean Giordano, whom he married October 6, 1951, died March 20, 2012. He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen (John) Bonace of Lowellville; two sons, Rocco (Kellie) Nero of Cortland and Mario (Denise) Nero of Lowellville; sister-in-law, Theresa Niro of North Lima; two nephews, Peter (Theresa) Nero of Poland and Frank (Barbara) Niro of Boardman; 10 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mario was preceded in death by two brothers, Leopaldo and Silvio Niro.
A prayer service will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Lowellville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received Thursday from 3-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
