STRUTHERS - Marilyn P. Fabis, 85, died Wednesday evening at her son Andrew's residence.
Mrs. Fabis was born April 13, 1928, in Painesville, a daughter of the late Rudolph and Ida Haapala Pernoja.
She was a 1946 graduate of Fairport Harbor High School and received her bachelor's degree in Education from Ohio University in 1950.
Mrs. Fabis began her career as a Girls Physical Education Teacher with Poland Schools, working there for several years. In 1961, she was hired as the Girls Physical Education Teacher at Chaney High School, retiring in 1984. While at Chaney High School, she served as the cheerleader advisor and the Girls Track and Basketball Coach.
In her spare time, she enjoyed playing cards and bridge, going to the casinos in her later years with her husband, and flower gardening. Mrs. Fabis especially loved roses and was a member of the Rose Society.
Her husband, Andrew George Fabis Jr., whom she married June 9, 1951, died Aug. 11, 2010.
Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Susan (Ron) Rivello of Struthers; two sons, Andrew (Nancy) Fabis and Glenn (Mary) Fabis, both of Poland; seven grandchildren, Jason (Alana) Rivello, Jamie (Dan) Monico, Megan (Joel) Monaco, Kathryn Fabis, Emily (David) Hartong, Felicia Fabis, and Garrett Fabis; and one great-grandchild, Evan Monaco.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland, where friends and family will be received one hour prior.
