YOUNGSTOWN - Margaret Ruth Kristoff Sandine, 96, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
Margaret was born April 10, 1918, in Youngstown, a daughter of Joseph and Veronica Demiter Kristoff. She was raised on the West Side and attended Holy Name School.
A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she dedicated her life to being a wonderful homemaker. She enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family and entertaining in her home, always cooking and baking wonderful dishes for her family and friends. Her husband said, "I lost the best cook in the country, she knew how to cook Slovak, Italian and Jewish meals." Some of Margaret's favorite pastimes included cooking, vacationing in Florida, dancing, singing, and going to the casino and race track. She adored her beloved dog Maggie.
She was a member of St. Christine Catholic Church in Youngstown.
She will be lovingly missed by her husband of 76 years, Dominic Sandine, whom she married on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, 1938 at Holy Name Church in Youngstown; her five daughters, Mary Ann (James) Huesken of Poland, Veronica (Robert) Morell of Boardman, Marge (Jerry) Murphy of Pembroke Pines, Fla., and Sandra Kertis and Theresa Leaver, both of Poland; her grandchildren, James and Dominic Eckman, Caroline Lupo, Patrice Loree, Christine Murphy, Joanne Lopez, Erin Murphy, Maryann Byrns, Susanne Meech, Nancy Reis, Joseph Kertis, Sara Sandine, and Mary Olge; and twenty one great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by four sisters, Victoria Sefcik, Mary Baluck, Helen Hamrock and Anne Callan; and one brother, Joseph Christoff.
A prayer service will be held Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Christine Church with Father Michael Swierz officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown.
Friends and family will be received on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
