Margaret A. (O'Donnell) Jenkins, 70
Youngstown: Margaret A. (O'Donnell) Jenkins, 70, passed away at Hospice of the Valley Hospice House on Friday, August 2, 2019 after a courageous three and a half year battle with lung cancer.
Margaret was born to John O'Donnell and Mary Margaret Barrett in Youngstown, on May 31, 1949. She was a graduate of Ursuline High School and Youngstown State University.
From a young age, Margaret had a keen interest in serving others. At the age of twelve, she began volunteering at St. Mary's Home for the Aged, where she ministered to the elderly residents. She continued that mission through high school.
Margaret began her career with Lake-to-River Girl Scouts where she helped to guide young girls in becoming productive citizens. She left that position for one that she enjoyed above all else - raising her three children. There was a lot of love and laughter in the Jenkins household. Once her children were on their own, Margaret entered the business world where she became a successful salesperson for Jenkins Sign Company.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her brother, John Patrick O'Donnell and brother-in-law, Edward Adams.
This funny, loving, and gentle woman will be greatly missed by her devoted husband, Joseph Jenkins; her daughters, Elizabeth Jenkins and Katie Jenkins; and son, Joe Jenkins; a sister, Ann O'Donnell Adams; brothers, Tom O'Donnell and Robert O'Donnell; sister-in-laws, Judy Jenkins and Cathy Lavorata O'Donnell. Her many cousins and friends will mourn the loss of this remarkable woman.
Special thanks to the physicians and staff of UPMC and Mercy Health at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Health Center. Your professional kindness and compassion make this difficult journey a little more bearable. The family would also like to thank the staff at Hospice of the Valley. The gentleness and compassion with which Margaret was treated was of great comfort.
There will be a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, August 5, 2019 at noon at St. Edward Church, 240 Tod Lane in Youngstown. Calling hours for family and friends will be on Monday from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. at the church prior to the Mass. Interment will take place at a later date at the columbarium at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
Margaret's family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Boardman, Ohio 44512 in memory of Margaret.
Arrangements are being handled by the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market Street in Boardman.
