Struthers - Margaret Lucille Higgins, 76, died Friday morning at her home with her family at her side.

Margaret, affectionately known as Peggy, was born September 29, 1940 in Farrell, PA, a daughter of the late Thomas and Rose (Ricciardi) Zappa. In 1947 Peggy and her family came to Struthers to make their home.

She graduated from Struthers High School, the Class of 1958, and retired  as a secretary for the Struthers Board of Education in 2003 after 30 years of service.

Peggy was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers, met regularly for 59 years with her high school classmates’ Girls Club and was a member of the Red Hats Society. In her spare time Peggy loved painting, crafting, traveling and trips to the casinos. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Peggy's happiest moments were when she was with her family and friends.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, William J. Higgins, whom she married almost 59 years ago, on June 27, 1959; one daughter, Kim Higgins Eggleston of Atlanta, GA; three sons, William "Bebe" Higgins of Columbus; Bryan (Michele) Higgins of Poland and Michael (Jeanette) Higgins of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Dolores (Victor) Wereb of New Middletown and Loretta (Richard) Homick of Loganville, GA; seven grandchildren, Megan (David) Boggs, Lorrin Higgins, Bryan Higgins, Jr., Will Higgins IV, Jason Higgins, Robby Higgins and Lucy Higgins; and her beloved dog, Hobo.

Friends will be received Monday from 4-7 p.m. at Davidson-Becker Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church as Peggy’s wish was always to donate her body to NEOMED for educational purposes and research into Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Contributions may be made to CurePSP at www.psp.org. The family would also like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Hospice of the Valley for their incredible support.
