Struthers - Margaret F. Bartos Gennaro, 94, died Sunday morning, September 11, 2016 at Masternick Memorial Health Care Center.
Margaret was born June 11, 1922 in Mingo Junction, Ohio, a daughter of Stephen and Mary Sabo Bartos, and came to Campbell as a toddler.
Raised in Campbell, she was a 1940 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and attended Youngstown College, where she took secretarial classes. Margaret first worked for Wimpy's Diner until she began working for Youngstown Sheet & Tube. She worked in the office for ten years, before becoming a dedicated homemaker and mother. She married her husband, Frank A. Gennaro, in May of 1949 and they relocated to Struthers in 1951, where they would make their home and raise their three daughters.
She was a longtime member of Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church. At the church, she was a member of its Altar & Rosary Society, the Mother's Club, St. Nick's Senior Citizens, taught CCD Class in the 60's and also substituted at the school for several years.She was also a member of the Campbell Senior Citizens, the Slovak Catholic Sokols, the Home Extension, which was a beautification program that helped plant flowers in Yellow Creek Park, and the USWA 1418, where she served as a tour director for many years. She also volunteered for over 30 years as a poll judge on election days.
Her husband, Frank, preceded her in death in October of 1995. She is survived by her three daughters, Dodie Gennaro of Struthers, Sharlene (Rory) Phelan of Boardman, and Linda (Richard) Durochia of Poland; seven grandchildren, Eric (Jillian) Phelan, Brian, David, and Dana Phelan, Rachel (Tom) Breinnis, Suzie (Bob) Bannon, and Diane Durochia; six great-grandchildren; brother, Edward (Bertha) Bartos of Campbell; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Stephen, Thomas, and Michael Bartos; and a sister, Emily Kotch.
A prayer service will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Martin Celuch officiating. Interment will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received on Monday from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, prior to the prayer service.
