New Middletown - Margaret A. DeGeorge, 63, formerly of Struthers, died Thursday afternoon, August 9, 2012 at the Hospice House after a courageous battle with cancer.
Margaret was born August 23, 1948 in Meadowview, Virginia, a daughter of Virginia Humm. She came to Youngstown as a young girl and then moved to Struthers in 1967 and most recently to New Middletown in 2011.
She was a 1967 graduate of Struthers High School and received her Medical Assistant Certificate from Mahoning County Joint Vocational School. She worked as a medical assistant for several years and was a member of the American Association of Medical Assistants. Margaret was a homemaker and also provided childcare in her home.
She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Youngstown and the Struthers PTA.
She is survived by her husband, Robert J. DeGeorge, whom she married August 24, 1968; three daughters, Concetta (Greg) Peck of Garfield Heights, Melissa (Tim) Berger, and Nicole (Kenneth) McGrath, both of Struthers. Margaret was also known as Nana to her eight grandchildren whom she cherished, Alysa, Chase, Mariah, Paige, Kira, Ayla, Peyton and Nash.
Besides her mother, Margaret was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Widener.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, 10:00 AM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland with Rev. Msgr. Michael Cariglio officiating. Interment will follow Tuesday at St. John Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Davidson-Becker Family Center, Struthers.
Friends may call Monday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
