Donna was born in Punxsutawney, PA, daughter of Elizabeth McIntyre-Jordan Covell and Charles Covell, Sr. She was a 1942 graduate of South High School, Youngstown, OH, and dedicated her efforts to various charitable groups in support of US troops during WWII.
During her professional career, Donna worked as an executive secretary for the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company, executive secretary for First Baptist Church, and retired from the Youngstown Credit Bureau as a court reporter and union president.
Donna was a deaconess and Sunday School teacher at Bethlehem United Church of Christ for twenty five years.
She became an active member of Highway Tabernacle, Highway Senior Citizens, helped establish the Harvest Life Center, taught Bible Study groups, and served as prayer chairman and president of Women's Aglow Fellowship. Donna was an avid reader, supported the building of the Youngstown Christian School, its library, and Tod Children's Hospital. She was PTA President for Paul C. Bunn School and a Camp Fire leader with the distinction of being the oldest group in the city. She loved to fish, camp, spend time with her family at Cooks Forest and Lake Erie, and enjoyed her new "family" friendships with the wonderful staff and residents at Briarfield at the Ridge.
Donna was predeceased by her beloved husband, William Schmidt, sister, Dorothy and brother, Kenneth. She sadly leaves her brother Charles Covell, Jr., of Berlin Center, children, Kathleen Ashton, Conneaut, Ohio, Lori Ashton, Struthers, Ohio, Darlene Ruhl, Bloomsdale, Missouri, and stepson, Donald Schmidt, Hermitage, PA. Her grandchildren include: Keith (Julie) and Kevin (Justi) Glaros, Thomas and Tamara Coe, and Jacquelyn Schmidt- Schumacher. Her precious great-grandchildren were the light of her life and she will miss Alex, Alyssa, Max and Myles Glaros, and Alexandria and Hermione Coe.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the library at the Youngstown Christian School or Akron Children's Hospital/Mahoning Valley, Community Outreach, Education and Support Center, Boardman, Ohio.
Friends are welcome to call Tuesday, December 28th from 10-11 a.m. and/or attend a Memorial Service from 11a.m.-Noon at Highway Tabernacle Church, Raccoon and Kirk Roads, Austintown, Ohio. Donna will rest in peace through eternity next to her husband at Green Haven Cemetery in Austintown, Ohio.
