Struthers - Lucille "Lucy" Esther Zanni, 86, of Struthers, died Saturday, December 27, 2008 at the Hospice House surrounded by her family. Mrs. Zanni was born September 3, 1922 in Struthers, a daughter of Luigi and Maria Rossi Ferrante. She was a homemaker, and during World War II, Lucy was a "Rosie the Riveter" for the Ford Motor Company in Detroit Michigan, helping to build airplanes for the war effort. Mrs. Zanni was a member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers, the Italian Mothers Club, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Society in Lowellville, the VFW Post No.3538 Ladies Auxiliary, and the St. Anthony Society. Mrs. Zanni loved to crochet and was a seamstress. She hand made a gown and cape for the Madonna and Infant Jesus displayed at the National Shrine and Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, Ohio. Mrs. Zanni made her own clothes and loved to make clothing for others. She also loved embroidering and loved watching "I Love Lucy". Her husband, Salvatore L. Zanni, whom she married July 12, 1947, died June 3, 1980. She leaves five daughters, Anna Marie D'Abruzzi of Struthers, Lorraine (Bob) Erison of Bainbridge, Carmella Zanni of Struthers, Sally Ann (Ron Havalo) Zanni of Struthers, and Denise Zanni of Hudson; two sons, Richard Zanni of Nashville, TN, and Robert (Dora) Zanni of Struthers; ten grandchildren, Charisse (Dr. Art) Smith, Pamela (Dave) Jones, Christine, Michelle and Robert Zanni, Jessica, Matthew and Joseph Zanni, Scott (Rita) Erison and Briana Eriso; 5 great-grandchildren, Zachary and Connor Jones, Alexander Smith, Gabrielle and Gavin Erison; two brothers-in-law, Lou (Irene) Zanni of Struthers and Vaudie Holland of Lucedale, Miss.; and two sisters-in-law, Mary (Edward) Parisi of Struthers and Amelia Ferrante of Dearborn, MI. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Julia Ferrante, Pauline Bruno, and Josephine Holland; and seven brothers, Guy, Sabatino, John, Evangelist, Guiseppe, Carmen and Tony Ferrante. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers and 10 a.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church with Father Frank Zanni officiating. Interment will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends will be received Monday from 5-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 8:45 - 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home.
