Louis S. Zanni

North Lima - Louis S. Zanni, 85, of North Lima, formerly of Struthers, died Thursday morning, January 1, 2015 after a short illness at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Boardman.

Lou was born December 2, 1929 in Campbell, a son of Frank and Anna Zarone Zanni.

In 1931 his family moved to Struthers where Lou was raised and attended Struthers High School. He lived in Lowellville from 1953 until returning to Struthers in 1958.

In 1948, before graduating from high school, Lou enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as Staff Sergeant until he was honorably discharged in 1952. He later received his G.E.D. from South High School.

Lou was a United States Postal Carrier and a clerk for both the Village of Lowellville and City of Struthers. He retired after 36 years of service. After retirement, Lou enjoyed working calling hours and funerals for Becker Funeral Homes for many years. He was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church where he was a member of the choir. Lou was a member of a mixed bowling league at the Holiday Bowl. He collected coins and loved to garden. He especially enjoyed sharing his garlic and tomatoes with family and friends.

Lou's wife of 58 years, the former Irene Cipro, whom he married June 6, 1953 died June 20, 2011. He is survived by two daughters, Virginia (John) Gordon and Carol (Terry) Yoder all of Dunedin, FL; four sons, Fr. Frank Zanni of Vienna, Dave Zanni of Chillicothe, John Zanni of Struthers, and Steven Zanni of Chicago, IL; one sister, Mary Parisi of Poland; nine grandchildren, Brenda, Jeffrey, Matthew, Lindsey, Michael, Ian, Eric, Angela, and Jerry; and eight great-grandchildren, Samantha, Dean, Brielle, Clarice, Adelyn, Greyson, Paige, and Mya; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Beside his parents and wife, Lou was preceded in death by his son, Fr. James Zanni; and brother, Salvatore Zanni.

A Prayer Service will be held Monday, 10:15 AM at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Church in Struthers with Fr. Frank Zanni officiating. Interment will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, in Lowellville.

Family and friends will be received Sunday from 4-7 PM at the funeral home.
