Niles - Lou Mae Sharp, 94, of Niles, formerly of Poland, died April 11, 2009 at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren. Mrs. Sharp was born September 16, 1914 in Dalton, Georgia, the daughter of Harold and Mae Stover Stanley. She moved to Struthers in 1922 and to Poland in 1948 where she lived until 2000 before relocating to Niles. She was a 1935 graduate of Struthers High School, where she was a star on the girl's basketball team. Mrs. Sharp worked as a server for the former Golden Drumstick, retiring in 1977 after 32 years. She was a member of the Struthers Baptist Tabernacle and attended New Life Assembly of God. Mrs. Sharp enjoyed gardening and quilting. Her husband, Donald Sharp, whom she married February 14, 1935, died February 25, 1980. She leaves three daughters, Donna Cera of Niles, Jane Filmer of Canfield, and Joan (William) Mikesell of Hudson; four grandchildren, Jodi (Ron) Weaver of Canfield, Tod Filmer of Canfield, Lori (Daniel) Baylor of Hudson, and Jennifer Mikesell of Stow; and four great-grandchildren, Jordan and Andrew Franklin and Seth and Sara Baylor. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her infant son, Richard; and her brother, Paul Stanley. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers, where family and friends will be received Wednesday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
