Lowellville- Lloyd Edwards, 90, died June 25, 2018 at Hospice House.
Lloyd was born July 21, 1927 in West Moreland County, Turkey Town, Pennsylvania, a son of Marvin and Anna (Lhiva) Edwards.
Lloyd was a member of the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Lowellville.
Lloyd retired from the United States Post Office and also retired from the Army after serving his country for more than 36 years in several branches of the military including the Army Air Corp, Air Force, and the United States Regular Army including the Army Reserves and
Army National Guard. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during WW II and Korean Conflict.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 247 in Lowellville, where he was a Past Commander. He was also Past District Commander for the American Legion. Lloyd was a member of AMVETS Post 44 in Struthers and Korean War Veterans Chapter 137.
Lloyd was a chairman for the Boys State of Post 247 and had been honored as a Lowellville Citizen- of the Year. Lloyd A. Edwards of Lowellville was also a Commander of the United Veterans Council of Greater Youngstown. He had recently been a volunteer at the VA Hospital in Youngstown, where he was part of the hospitality team.
Outside of serving his country and family, Lloyd was an avid competition bowler within Youngstown area. He was a hunter, who also enjoyed camping with his family in the Allegheny Mountains and traveling across the country with his wife after his retirement.
He leaves five children, Rebecca Edwards, Daniel Edwards, Karen (Rex) Olson, Vincent (Susanne) Edwards, and Christopher Edwards; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two sisters, Lenore (Rick) Kihn and Kate Hoofner ; two brothers, David (Anna Marie) and Howard (Gladys).
Besides his parents and wife Gertrude, whom he married in 1951, died March 13, 2015 he was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin Jr. and Alvin; and one sister, Mary Louise.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 30th at 10:00AM at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church with the Fr. John Trimbur as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Cemetery, with military honors. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Lloyd's name to donors favorite charity.
