Lester F. Brownlee

Girard- Lester F. Brownlee, 99, peacefully went Home to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ on April 26, surrounded by family. He was born on June 8, 1915, a son of Lewis and Flora Creed Brownlee and was a graduate of Scienceville High School.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Sergeant of Private Investigations of the Military Police Force. He was decorated with the Army of Occupation Medal of Japan, the Victory Medal, the Medal of Good Conduct, and two overseas bar stripes, and was honorably discharged in 1945.

He was a member of the Struthers Baptist Church, the UAW, the American Legion and AARP. Lester was a retiree of the Railway Express Agency and General Motors in Lordstown.

He married the late, Mary Louise Coddington, and is survived by their three children Noralee Brownlee of Girard, with whom he resided, Lauralie (Joe) Zayas of North Jackson and Robert Louis Brownlee of Youngstown. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Wednesday Ann Williams of California, Jennifer Brownlee of North Lima, Michael (Daly) Zayas of North Jackson, Jillean Zayas of Erie, PA; granddaughter-in-law, Zenaida Williams of Poland and nine great grandchildren.

On February 18, 1961, Lester married his second wife, Velma Cannon, who preceded him in death. He had two stepchildren, Richard (Lois) Cannon and the late Gail (Thomas) Unick. He also leaves six step grandchildren, Thomas (Elizabeth) Unick, Michael (Feona) Unick, Anne (Michael) Lattro, Joseph (Wendy) Unick and Jill (the late Ray) Dudik. He had 13 step great grandchildren.

Lester was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Helen Brownlee, his grandson, Eric Williams and his step granddaughter, Tracie Hensley.

Friends and family may call on Wednesday from 4-7pm at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring St. Struthers. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10am at the funeral home with interment to follow at Poland Riverside Cemetery.

The family asks that memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Valley or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
