LENO L. LANER âa�" 83 NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Leno L. Laner, 83 of 6247 Columbiana Rd., died Monday, May 7 at the Forum Health Northside Medical Center. Mr. Laner was born August 31, 1923 in Uhrichsville, a son of Angelo and Domenica Gasperazzo Laner, and was a life long area resident. He graduated from Uhrichsville High School in 1941, and attended Technical School in Chicago, studying TV and Radio Engineering. He served in WWII, landing in Scotland with Company M, 115th. Infantry 29th Division, participating in the D-Day Invasion, and he received the Purple Heart. He also served in the Korean Conflict, in the National Guard. He was a charter Member of the Boardman Christian Church. Mr. Laner was a life member of the VFW Post 4579 in East Palestine, the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians, the Menâa�a��s Garden Club of Youngstown, where he received his lifetime membership in 1983. He served as President, Secretary, and was on the Service Committee Post. He received numerous awards such as the Bronze Medal Award in 1986, the National Green Bronze award in 1999, the National Trowel Award in 2005 and also in 2006, and numerous recruiting awards. He was employed by WFMJ as a Radio and TV Engineer, retiring in 1985 after 35 years. He also was a member of the Chatter Box Luncheon Group, the Dacas Luncheon Group and the 55 âa�" Plus Luncheon Group. His wife, the former Mary Morley, whom he married November 23, 1959, died April 7, 1997. He leaves One son Russell (Martie) Laner of Florida, one daughter, Sue (Tim) Simms of Columbus, one sister, Ida Deceuster of Dover, three grandchildren, Molly (Patrick) Kaplet, Brandi (Jim) Jordan-Wood, Tiffani Jordan, seven great-grandchildren, and two sisters in law, Julia Limber of Columbus and Norma Laner of New Philadelphia, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by four sisters, Lena Davis, Anne Burnhouse, Angie Klepa, Trinda Wardell, and one brother, Carl Laner. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service Saturday, May 19 at 3:00 PM at the Disciples Christian Church, 565 Boardman-Canfield Rd., Boardman. Memorial Contributions may be given in Mr. Lanerâa�a��s name to the Laner Scholarship Fund of the Menâa�a��s Garden Club of Youngstown.
