Poland - Lee R. John, 81, died early Thursday morning, June 27, 2013 at Assumption Village.
Mr. John was born August 18, 1931 in Cleveland, a son of Ben E. John Jr. and Mildred Koehler John. He came to Struthers in 1961 and lived there until he and his wife moved to Poland in 2001 to live with his son and daughter-in-law.
Mr. John was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War as a member of the Signal Corp and received a National Defense Service Medal. He first worked as a milkman for Borden Milk Company, then truck driver for Ryder Truck hauling steel and finally worked as a sewing machine repairman, doing much of his business with Minnesota Fabrics.
In his spare time, Lee enjoyed woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, the former Jeanne Bowshot, whom he married July 26, 1960; three children, Roy (Irene) John of Poland, Laura (Fred) Tausz of Bentleyville, and Lawrence (Terri) John of Rootstown; six grandchildren, Kristen (Dan) Beck, Michael (Kristen) John, Cory John, David (Claudia) Tausz, and Elizabeth and Evan John; three great-grandchildren, Melrose and Junah Beck, and Logan John; and sister-in-law, Lois Summerlin of Mantua, and aunt, Nikki John of Chesterland.
In addition to his parents, Lee was preceded in death by his brother, Alan Summerlin.
