Struthers - Lawrence C. Garchar, 90, of Struthers, died Tuesday morning, August 26, 2014 at Masternick Memorial Health Care Center.
Mr. Garchar, affectionately known as "Larry," was born February 6, 1924 in Campbell, a son of Andrew and Helen Bivalec Garchar.
A 1942 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School, Larry worked as a Deputy Auditor for Mahoning County, retiring in 1978 after 36 years of service.
He was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Struthers. He was an active member of the former Struthers Knights of Columbus 4224, where he was a life-time member and a Sir Knight. Larry held Grand Knight position for 2 terms and in 1976 he received the Grand Knight of the Year Award. He is currently a member of Christ Our Savior Knights of Columbus 4471.
Larry was a dedicated and hard working family man, who enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, the former Rachel Romack, whom he married October 27, 1945; two daughters, Rebecca Arehart of Struthers and Susan Frost of Columbus; three sons, Jeff Garchar of Girard, Mark Garchar of Struthers, and David (Norma) Garchar of Struthers; brother, Edward (Donna) Garchar of Boardman; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Obie.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Bakosh and a brother, Andrew Garchar.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Bernard Gaeta officiating. Family and friends will be received Friday from 9:15 AM until 10:00 AM prior to the Mass in church. Private entombment will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.
