Youngstown- Laura Louise Smith, 81, of Youngstown, formerly of New Middletown and Poland, died Saturday, November 10, 2007 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Laura was born September 4, 1926 in Erwin, Tennessee, a daughter of John and Hattie Whaley Baker. A graduate of Springfield Local High School, Laura worked as a registered nurse at Northside Hospital. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of New Middletown and attended Poland Presbyterian Church. Laura loved to cook, bake, read, and enjoyed spending time with her family. Laura leaves her husband, Ronald E. Smith, whom she married January 7, 1951; her daughter, Vicki Watson of Columbus; a brother, James (Helen) Baker of Youngstown; two granddaughters, Meredith and Madeline Watson of Columbus; a brother-in-law, John Barrow of Columbiana; two nieces, Kathy (Don) Reash and Connie (Dennis) Higbee, both of Columbiana; two great-nephews, Kevin Llewellyn of Los Angeles, CA and Thomas Higbee of Columbiana; and two great-nieces, Kristen Llewellyn and Vicki Higbee, both of Columbiana. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Baker Barrow. Private funeral services were held at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Monday, November 12, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Larry Klinker officiating. Interment was in the Zion Cemetery, New Middletown.
