Laura Avalyn Lind

Poland - Laura Avalyn Lind, of Poland, died Monday evening, October 1, 2012 at Shepherd of the Valley.

Laura, affectionately known to all as Avalyn was born March 23, 1923 in Boardman Township, a daughter of Lemont and Margaret Hively Pifer. She was raised in Boardman and moved to Poland in 1950.

A 1941 graduate of Boardman High School, Avalyn worked for General Electric Lamp Works from 1941 until 1950. She was a member of the Boardman Pioneers, auxiliary member of the Gideon International and a charter member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Poland, where she also taught Sunday School and Bible School. Avalyn loved her role as a wife, mother and grandmother, She enjoyed baking and cooking for her family, but most of all spending time with them. .

Her husband Leonard Andrew Lind, whom she married October 4, 1941, died April 26 2012. She leaves two daughters,Sandra and husband Walter Cichon of Phoenix, AZ, and Debra and husband Gary Weaver of Boardman; one son, Leonard and wife Mary Lind of Fulshear, TX; one sister, Carol Kane of Austintown; three grandchildren, Jason Cichon, and Amanda and Kirsten Weaver; and one great-grandchild, Tyler Cichon.

Besides her parents and husband, Avalyn was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Lemont, and Myron Pifer, and one grandson, Scott Cichon.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, 11:00 am at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Julieanne Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown.

Friends will be received Friday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home and Saturday from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM at the church.
