Larry P. Smith

Larry P. Smith, 71, passed away on December 3, 2024, at the age of 71, in the comfort of his home in Poland.

He was born on October 18, 1953, in Youngstown, Ohio, a son of the late Harry and Jane (Connor) Smith.

Larry attended Woodrow Wilson High School, where he graduated in 1971. During his time there, he showcased his musical talent as a member of the school band, playing the clarinet. It was also where he met his beloved wife, the former Nancy Danco. They married on November 9, 1974, and together celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, just prior to his passing.

 Larry attended Youngstown State University, where he earned an associate’s degree in marketing. He continued to pursue his career for many years working at St. Elizabeth Hospital, first in maintenance and later in central supply.

A passionate nature photographer, Larry dedicated many hours to capturing the beauty of wildlife in Mill Creek Park. His photographic endeavors earned him recognition, including numerous ribbons at the Canfield Fair. Beyond photography, Larry enjoyed nurturing a vibrant garden, particularly fond of growing tomatoes that often graced the family meals he prepared. His interests also included following sports, where he found pleasure in cheering on the Cleveland Browns, Indians, and enjoying the thrills of NASCAR.

Larry was a devoted family man, who placed great importance on the relationships he cherished as a husband, father, and grandfather.

 He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; their children, Mathew (Dana) Smith of Temple, Texas, and Erin (Michael) Kenepp of Grover Beach, California; and his treasured grandchildren, Aiden, Rory, Afton, Seth, and Ilee. He is also survived by his sister, Janet (Dennis) Bender; nephews, Rick (Tabitha) Myers and Douglas (Julie) Bender; brother-in-law Russ Garrison; and his cherished furry companion, Shelby.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Barbara Garrison.

Calling hours on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, located at 270 N. Main St. in Poland, Ohio. A funeral service will follow at 4:00 p.m.
