Lowellville - Kenneth James Kmetz, 66, of Lowellville, died Wednesday afternoon at the Cleveland Clinic.
Kenny was born October 3, 1947 in Youngstown, a son of John and Audrey MacDonald Kmetz.
He was raised in Campbell and was a 1965 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School.
After graduation Kenny served in the United States Air Force as a chopper medic during the Vietnam War. He served at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines and was honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant in 1969.
Kenny returned to the area, and to Lowellville, and worked at Falcon Foundry while attending Youngstown State University on the GI Bill. In 1973, he was employed in skilled trades by General Motors as a WEMR. He retired in 2010 after 37 years of service.
A proud member of UAW Local #1714 for 37 years, Kenny remained active as a retiree. He especially enjoyed breakfast every Wednesday morning with his union brothers.
Kenny was also a member of the Lowellville American Legion Post # 247 and Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Lowellville.
Kenny had numerous hobbies including working on cars and reading. He was a voracious reader, sometimes reading 2 books a day and was a supporter of the local libraries in Lowellville, Struthers and Poland. A dedicated family man, Kenny was quiet, loyal, conservative and loved being an American. Kenny loved surrounding himself with friends, and especially his family, including his one and only granddaughter.
Besides his mother, Audrey, of Campbell, Kenny leaves his wife, the former Rose DeLorenzo, whom he married January 6, 1968; two daughters, Atty. Kimberlee Kmetz of Fairlawn, OH and Atty. Kristi (John) Archer of Hudson, OH; one son, Kenneth Kmetz of Mars, PA; his granddaughter, Ava Rose Archer; one brother, John (Toni) Kmetz of TX; and one sister, Christine Hylton of Poland.
Besides his father, Kenny was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Kmetz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, 10:30 AM at Holy Rosary Church with Fr. Gerald DeLucia officiating. Interment will follow at the Holy Rosary Cemetery, Lowellville.
Family and friends will be received Sunday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home Lowellville, where a Prayer Service will be held Monday at 10:00 AM.
