Boardman - Keith "Pete" Allan Oslin, 78, died Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at his residence.
Mr. Oslin, affectionately known as "Pete", was born November 21, 1933 in Shubert, Nebraska, a son of Earl Oslin and Hazel (Davis) Meyer. He was raised by his step-father, Chet Meyer.
He attended Hamlin High School in Hamlin, Kansas until enlisting in the United States Army, where he received his GED. Serving active duty for four years during the Korean Conflict, he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, 2 bronze service stars, United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.
After being discharged from the Army, he joined the United States Air Force, serving active duty for seven years. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, he enlisted in the Air Force Reserves from 1962 until 1993. In 1967, he was chosen outstanding Reserve Airman for the 910th Combat Support Squadron, 910th Troop Carrier Group, 302nd Troop Carrier Wing, and 1st Air Force Reserve Region. While serving in the Reserves, he also worked as a civil service fireman at the Vienna Airport, retiring in 1986 as fire chief.
After retirement, he loved being a full time grandpa and enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting and music events, and he particularly liked following Boardman football. He was a former member of the VFW, a past member of Lowellville Parent Teacher Association, a Little League Baseball Manager and girls softball coach, and a Scout Master of the Cub Scouts.
His wife, the former Rose C. Catanzarite, whom he married February 2, 1955, died May 22, 2005. He leaves his two daughters, Judy (Jeff) Huber and Linda Snovak, both of Boardman; three sons, Mike (Cindy) Oslin, Tim (Nancy) Oslin, both of Boardman, and Dan (Lissa) Oslin of Poland; three brothers, Jack (Peggy) Oslin of Richardson, TX, Rick (Julie) Meyer of Topeka, KS, and Rod Meyer of Hiawatha, KS; and twelve grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Randy Meyer, Hod Oslin, and Don Oslin.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland. Family and friends will be received Sunday from 1-2:45 p.m. at the funeral home, prior to the service.
The family requests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Mr. Oslin's name to the Disabled American Veterans, 608 Matawan Avenue, Campbell, Ohio 44405 and/or to the AMVETS, 305 Elm Street, Struthers, Ohio 44471.
