Katie Stefek

d. December 22, 2009

In death we celebrate new life for Katie Stefek who passed on December 22nd. May she now be together with her husband John, who passed on 22 years ago.
Katie was born in Mahoning, P.A. in September 1925, the second youngest of thirteen siblings. Eight years later, she moved to New York City with her sisters and mother where she later began working at the age of thirteen. She completed high school at night while working at AT&T, first as operator and then as a supervisor.
In 1947, she married John Stefek and eventually settled on Long Island raising two sons, Dan and Paul. Throughout her life and in raising her two sons she stressed the importance of education as a formula for success. She earned an Associates degree in Accounting from Nassau Community College and a Bachelor of Science degree from College of Old Westbury SUNY. She worked for the State of NY Unemployment Services, retiring in 1996.
In 2000, Katie moved to the Youngstown area to be closer to her son Paul and his family. She enjoyed meeting new people and working on craft projects at the Senior Citizen Center in Boardman. She has lived at Shepherd of the Valley, Hampton Woods, and most recently at Assumption Village.

Her sense of humor and generosity will be missed by all who knew her, especially her son, Dan and his wife Amy, son, Paul and wife Pat, grandchildren Bryan, Heather, Peter, and Adam in addition to many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and 12 siblings.

The family would like to thank her physicians and the dedicated staff at Assumption Village for their kindness and patience in caring for her.

She will be interred with husband, John at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Farmingdale, NY.
