Kathryn Ann Parish

October 13, 1947 — September 7, 2013

Boardman - Kathryn Ann Parish, 65, formerly of Hillsville, PA, died early Saturday morning September 7, 2013 at her home, surrounded by family.

Kathryn, affectionately known as "Kathy," was born October 13, 1947 in Ellwood City, PA, a daughter of Anthony and Mary Principati Gidaro.

She was a 1965 graduate of Lincoln High School in Ellwood City and received her nursing degree from St. Francis School of Nursing in New Castle. Kathy worked as a registered nurse for 30 years for St. Francis Hospice and later Jameson Hospice, retiring in 1999. After retirement, she worked as a cashier at Shop N' Save in New Castle for nine years until she met her husband, Sal. They were married June 29, 2008 and she moved to Boardman to make their home.

She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church.

Kathy enjoyed nothing more than a day out shopping, following politics, casino trips, and reading, always having a hunger to learn. She also enjoyed decorating her home for the holidays, especially for her favorite season, Autumn. Kathy will always be remembered for her giving, caring, and generous nature, always helping people in need and putting their needs before hers.

She is survived by her husband, Sal Parish; two daughters, Lisa Ponziani of Pittsburgh and Gina (Pete) Kight of Youngstown; two sons, David (Nancy) Ponziani of Struthers and Dino Ponziani of Butler, PA; two step-daughters, Christa Parish and Amanda (Chris) Burke, both of Pittsburgh; step-son, James (Shaina) Parish of Ambridge, PA; ten grandchildren, Richard Deirfield, Ashley (Chris) Fleischmann, Cierra Abersold, Amy Ponziani, Frank Simone, Katie Ponziani, Veronica Burke, Luke Burke, Alexander Parish, and a grandchild expected in December; and her beloved dog, Vinny, and cat, Mia.

In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her first husband, David Ponziani; and two brothers, Frank "Cheech" and Joseph Gidaro.

A prayer service will be held Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. at the new Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Hillsville.

Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
