Poland - Karen L. Wilson, 71, died Wednesday afternoon, December 11, 2013 at Vista Center of Boardman.
Mrs. Wilson was born April 7, 1942 in Kittanning, PA, a daughter of Laird and Eleanor Burdett Lloyd, and came to this area as a child.
She was a 1960 graduate of Poland Seminary High School and received her bachelor's degree in home economics from Kent State University in 1964. Mrs. Wilson first worked as a teacher for numerous schools throughout the Youngstown area and a few years for Planned Parenthood. She spent the majority of her career as the Executive Director of the Youngstown Arts Council. While working for the Youngstown Arts Council, Karen directed several projects, including First Night Youngstown and Walk on Wick, which is now known as the Festival of Arts at YSU.
Karen was an active and lifelong member of the Poland United Methodist Church. She was also a member and past President of the Junior League of Youngstown.
In her spare time, Karen enjoyed walking her dogs in Poland Woods.
Her husband, Ernest S. Wilson, Jr., whom she married July 10, 1965, died January 3, 2013. Mrs. Wilson is survived by her son, Scott Wilson of Poland; mother-in-law, Ann Wilson of San Diego; and sister-in-law, Lynn Johnson of San Diego.
In addition to her parents and husband, Karen was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Robert Johnson.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland, where family and friends may call from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment will take place at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
