Struthers - Justin Robert Slaven, 23, passed away Thursday evening, March 20, 2014 at his home.
Justin was born on May 2, 1990 in Youngstown, a son of Robert and Leslie Tych Slaven.
A lifelong resident of Struthers, Justin graduated from Struthers High School in 2009, where he was a member of its choir. After graduation, Justin attended the ISLE of Purple Cat.
Justin loved people and never knew a stranger. His happy and sweet spirit was contagious and could make anyone smile.
Some of Justin's favorite things were playing video games, bowling with his dad, and taekwondo. Justin was a first degree black belt with the ATA Black Belt Academy, where he participated in the Special Abilities Division.
Justin, along with his family, are members of the Christ Lutheran Church in Struthers. Justin always looked forward to participating in Bible Study, Sunday School, and reading his daily devotional.
In addition to his dad, Robert "Rob" and his mom, Leslie, Justin is survived by his paternal grandparents, Roy and Nancy Slaven of New Springfield; maternal grandfather, Michael Tych of New Middletown; uncles, Shawn (Carolyn) Slaven of Leetonia, Tommy Vestal of Columbiana, and David (Miranda) Tych of Struthers; and aunts, Sharon Meehan of Youngstown and Sally (Mike) Fechtel of Struthers; and his great-great uncle and aunt, Jim and Ellen McMurray of Poland, whom Justin adored.
Justin was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, June Tych.
A memorial service celebrating Justin's life will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. and Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
