Huntsville, AL - Julia Elizabeth Gott - beloved “Auntie Jay”, 100, passed peacefully at home on the morning of Thursday, April 11, 2024.
Julia was born May 29, 1923, in Campbell, a daughter of John and Helen (Tomori) Gecse.
After graduating from Campbell Memorial High School in 1941, Julia worked at Astatic Corporation making sonar devices for submarines during World War II. In 1946, she worked at General Electric making light bulbs and in 1950 made travel irons at Gorgie’s. She then started a career as a dental assistant for Dr. David Mulne, D.D.S. from 1953-1965.
Julia lived 90 years of her life in Campbell, Youngstown, and Poland before moving in 2013 to Huntsville to live with her nephew and family.
Julia was a lifelong member of the Hungarian Presbyterian Church in Youngstown, where she was baptized as a child and served as an elder and member of the Presbyterian Women’s Group. Julia leaves a beautiful legacy of devotion and love for her family, church, and church family.
In addition to her parents, Julia was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, William R. Gott; her sisters, Irene (Robert) Eppley and Olga G. Diaz; and two brothers, John (Irene) Getchey and Frank (Margaret) Getchey.
She is survived by her stepson, Robert W. Gott of Mesquite, Texas; her nephews, Norbert (Claudia) Diaz of Huntsville, Robert (Melissa) Diaz of Poland, and John R. (Kathy) Getchey of Poland; nieces Carol (Don) Agler of Boardman, Karen (Bruce) Joseph of Columbiana, and Susan Watson of Canfield; eight great nieces; three great nephews; eight great-great nieces; and six great-great nephews.
Family and friends will be received from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024, at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main Street, Poland, and from 10:00-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the Hungarian Presbyterian Church, 745 Mahoning Avenue, Youngstown.
A funeral service will be held at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the Hungarian Presbyterian Church, with interment to follow at Tod Homestead Cemetery in Youngstown.
The family requests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Julia’s name to the Hungarian Presbyterian Church, 745 Mahoning Avenue, Youngstown, OH 44502.
