Struthers - Judith J. Elchuck, 72, died early Tuesday morning, October 13, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Health Center after a sudden illness.
Judith, affectionately known as "Judy," was born December 16, 1942 in Youngstown, a daughter of Joseph and Veronica Tabus Dattilo.
Raised in Youngstown, Judy was a 1960 graduate of East High School. She married, Michael Elchuck, on June 2, 1962, at Sacred Heart Church and became a dedicated homemaker. In 1972, Judy and her husband moved to Struthers, where they raised their two daughters. After her children were grown, Judy entered the workforce and began working in childcare. She first worked for the Holiday Bowl then retired from the Scandinavian Health Spa, which later became Bally Total Fitness.
She was a lifelong member of St. Angela Merici Parish, formerly known as Sacred Heart.
One of Judy's greatest moments in her life was when she received the title of grandma and became known as "Mama" to her five grandchildren. She loved surrounding herself around them and taking care of them.
Judy also loved hopping in her convertible with her husband and driving to Columbiana to observe the bald eagles.
In addition to her husband, Michael, Judy is survived by her two daughters, Leslie (Robert) Davanzo of New Springfield and Lorrie (Ian McMurray) Elchuck of Struthers; sister, Janice (Frank) Capuzello of Struthers; brother, Gerald Dattilo of Austintown; two sisters-in-law, Dee Carmendy of Struthers and Martha Thomas of Austintown; four grandchildren, Michael Cicozi, Marisa Davanzo, Vanessa Cicozi, and Travis McMurray; and her two beagles, Simon and Mason.
Besides her parents, Judy was preceded in death by a grandson, Zachary Davanzo.
Per Judy's wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, October 28th at 8:30 a.m. at St. Angela Merici Parish.
The family requests that all memorial tributes take the form of monetary or tangible donations to New Lease on Life Rescue, 2773 E. Midlothian Blvd., Struthers, Ohio 44471, an organization Judy held close to her heart because of her love for animals.
